Infina and I met on Threads after a mutual friend said our music styles were super aligned — both rooted in Rap Metal and Nu-Metal with a modern twist. That connection turned into a conversation, and pretty soon, we started throwing around the idea of a collab.
At the time, I’d slipped back into writing heavier hardcore stuff. My last 4 or 5 tracks were metallic hardcore, inspired by bands like Madball, Lionheart, and Rise of the Northstar. So, honestly, I didn’t really have anything on hand that would suit a Rap Metal crossover.
Then Infina sent over this track — and it hit. A killer Trap intro, then it bursts into a Nu-Metal/Rap Metal chorus, and finally ramps up into a full-blown Metalcore-style outro. I was hooked straight away.
I sat down to write — with no idea what was going to come out. I actually documented the process and threw it up on my YouTube channel if you’re curious to see how the writing unfolded.
I played around with a bunch of vocal styles but ended up going for a gritty, aggressive rap delivery. It gave the song a tougher edge compared to my usual voice.
Lyrically, it started out pretty personal — about someone who screwed you over — but then it morphed into something bigger: media manipulation, fighting back against systems of control, and that whole ‘us vs them’ mentality. Pretty standard for me these days.
Choruses are usually the part I struggle with — my voice isn’t overly melodic — but this one came out naturally:
“If we unite we can set you free”
I recorded my vocals with Jono Peters, who’s engineered a heap of my stuff — including ‘Snake Eyes,‘ ‘Polarised,’ ‘Unleashed,‘ and ‘Red Right Hand.‘ Then I sent it back to Infina. They loved it and went on to drop their own verse and some nasty screams in the breakdown.
I love collabs like this. They push me outside of my comfort zone and force me to explore new ideas — it’s what keeps things fresh.
Infina flipped the ‘E’ in ‘Unite’ backwards so it became a 3 — and that’s how ‘Unit3‘ was born. The artwork is epic too, all done by Infina. Check out the QR code on the artwork for a secret link
